Although there is a lot of talk about the role that insulation plays in keeping your home warm, windows are a also a major source of heat loss, and one where it can be relatively simple to make substantial improvements. Curtains are usually the first recourse in reducing heat-loss through windows, and although new curtains can be expensive, improvements can also be made on a limited budget – starting with ensuring that the correct curtains are used, and that they are correctly fitted. Palmerston North City Council Eco Design Advisor Nelson Lebo said most New Zealanders did not know how to fit them properly.
